I am the Data Editor at The Star-Ledger in Newark, New Jersey.
Since the 1990s, I’ve reported on local, state, regional and national issues. As an editor, I’ve worked with reporters fresh out of college and with seasoned veterans to produce deeply-reported, engaging stories. My interest in technology, data and investigative reporting led me to dive into computer-assisted reporting.
I’m comfortable walking the streets of a neighborhood beat, investigating corruption and malfeasance or coaching a green reporter to her first front-page byline.
This latest iteration of TomMeagher.com is my personal website as well as an attempt to share (and collect) reporting tips, techniques and best practices of investigative journalism. It is not affiliated in any way with my employer or its parent company. The views expressed are mine alone.
In my free time, I live in Jersey City, NJ with my wife, our daughter and our dog. I’m a soccer fanatic, vinyl record collector and reggae deejay.
